SCHAFFNER, represented by Westek Electronics , has introduced the ACARA range of high insertion loss connectors suitable for currents to 250A from dc to 60Hz.

The ACARA connectors incorporate significant features and benefits including fast mounting, polarised housings, and user keying for secure applications.

For applications such as a dc power connection, the use of an ACARA connector can virtually halve the parts count through the use of the integrated filter design.

The connectors are available with Y2 feed-through capacitors (max operating voltage 300V ac) or Y4 capacitors (max operating voltage 130V ac) providing very high insertion loss to 10GHz.

The ACARA feed-through capacitors utilise a concentric design with the power carrying pins being at the centre of annular earth-connected electrodes.

This design assures extremely low self-inductance and very high insertion losses in excess of 90dB at 10GHz.

ACARA connectors have very low contact resistance through the use of special metallisation processes which permit a large number of connect and disconnect cycles and also provide moderate temperature rise, for example, 140A typically yielding a temperature rise of 33°C.

Connectors are hot-pluggable and exhibit very low arcing on disconnection.
