Watson-Marlow Bredel has supplied peristaltic hose pumps for a Czech mining remediation project.
The extensive remediation activities were undertaken by DIAMO, a state enterprise in the Czech Republic to reduce the environmental impact of mining.
DIAMO, headquartered in Stráž pod Ralskem was tasked with reducing the environmental impact of open cast uranium mining in the Czech Republic.
Handling abrasive and corrosive fluids as well as slurries typically used in mining operations presents a challenge to any pump manufacturer. High solids content and strong acidity create problems for diaphragm pumps, centrifugal pumps or other types of pumps where the product comes in contact with the working parts of the pump.
After consulting with Watson-Marlow’s mining applications specialists, DIAMO opted for SPX peristaltic hose pumps to meter lime slurry for the mine spoil washing process.
The SPX peristaltic hose pumps operate with a system pressure of 5 bar and are ideally suited to the challenging nature of DIAMO’s requirements.
Capable of handling aggressive and acidic fluids, the SPX peristaltic pumps are delivering impressive results for DIAMO including a significant reduction in maintenance costs and plant downtime.
