New precision positioner available from Warsash Scientific
Now available from Warsash Scientific is the new M-682 precision positioner from PI, extending the line of compact linear stages with ultrasonic piezomotors on the side of longer travel and greater force generation.
PILine ultrasonic piezomotors feature low-profile designs because they do not need classical drive train elements like leadscrews or gears. The drive unit in the M-682 stage can attain velocities of 350 mm/s in closed-loop operation, or generate forces up to 7 N.
When at rest, the piezoceramic motors used exhibit holding forces which are greater than the generated positioning forces. This means that there is no heat generation or jitter, as seen with conventional servo-controlled motors at rest.
To improve guiding accuracy, the new stage is equipped with two crossed-roller bearings mounted on precision-ground aluminum profiles.
The M-682 micropositioning stage is well-suited for tasks in areas like biotechnology, microscopy or in photonics packaging, where available space is a critical issue.
Other features of the system include:
- 50 mm travel range
- Total height: 20 mm
- Encoder resolution: 0.1 µm
- 50 N load capacity
