Fibre Optic Winding Hotspot Temperature Sensors For Hv Power Transformers

Product/Service Name

LumaSense (formerly Luxtron Corporation) are the world’s leading supplier of fibre optic winding temperature sensors, for the direct real time monitoring of high voltage (HV) winding temperature and transformer cooling control & thermal management. LumaSense are the pioneers of the fiber optic temperature measurement and for over 25 years our WTS range of winding temperature probes have been installed in over 1,000 transformers from over 50 transformer manufacturing sites around the world.

Function/Applications
The most important parameter to measure on your transformer is the temperature. Transformer life is dependent upon the life of the insulating paper in the transformer. The insulating paper life is dependent upon the temperature it is exposed to. The hotspot is the highest temperature area in the transformer based on flux leakage from the windings, so naturally this makes the paper in this location the weakest and most susceptible to failure by over temperature conditions. That is why it is so critical to know exactly what this temperature is. LumaSense fibreoptic winding temperature sensors are the solution.

Differentiating Features
LumaSense fiber optic temperature measurement system offers

1. Design verification of the transformers by measuring exact temperatures during a heat run or type test and comparing to calculated design values

2. Dynamic loading conditions to have accurate, immediate indications during sudden loading of what is going on with the transformer

3. Accurate and safe control of overload situations

4. Maximize the amount of loading you put on a transformer without affecting the life by knowing exactly the winding hot spot temperature

5. The ability to control cooling fans, circulating pumps and alarms/protective trips by using an accurate, quick response temperature from the fiber optics – and thus enable control of your hotspot by activating cooling and protection by an accurate reading

6. Condition based maintenance and inspections based on accurate information

7. Elimination of calibrations and maintenance of temperature monitoring equipment – our systems replace conventional old analogue WTI’s and do not require calibration or maintenance…ever

Warsash Scientific has presented Photonics Industries' new line of solid-state diode pulse pumped lasers. This new line of DP series solid-state diode pulse pumped lasers incorporates their patented intra-cavity harmonic generation technology to produce 1064, 532, 355, 266 or 1053, 527, 351 and 263nm wavelengths.

SL4-DT Miniature UV-VIS Light Source SL4-DT Miniature UV-VIS Light Source from Warsash Scientific (29-Jul-2008)
Warsash Scientific has released StellarNet’s new, miniature Deuterium/Tungsten light source covering the 200-1700nm range in a single unit. The SL4-DT Miniature UV-VIS Light Source’s high output power enables use for reflectance measurements, where lower power light sources (like SL5-DH) are too weak.

NIRX-SR series spectrometer NIRX-SR series spectrometer from Warsash Scientific (28-Jul-2008)
Warsash Scientific has released StellarNet’s expanded line of NIR spectrometers to now include the NIRX-SR series. The NIRX-SR series cover the 0.9-2.3μm wavelength range using an InGaAs PDA detector and are available in two models. The 512 element version provides a spectral resolution of <16nm, while the 1024 high resolution model provides <8nm for specific applications.

ChemSight Hazardous Gas Detection System ChemSight Hazardous Gas Detection System from Warsash Scientific (11-Jul-2008)
In order to provide comprehensive information about chemical threats immediately and accurately, Warsash Scientific has presented the ChemSight Hazardous Gas Detection System from Avir Sensors. The ChemSight Hazardous Gas Detection System is an infrared (IR), line of sight, sensing system that utilises a simple, non-contact, spectral analysis of the atmosphere to detect and identify of a wide range of Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TIC) or Toxic Industrial Materials (TIM).
