, the F70 Series general purpose thickness measurement instruments by Filmetrics are able to measure thicknesses up to 13mm. The basic F70 can measure transparent materials and the F70-NIR can measure semiconductor materials. The thickness range is determined by the lens and software options.
Color-coding Thickness Measurement (CTM) is a non-contact measurement method for transparent materials. Measurements are taken from only one side of the sample and are relatively immune to roughness, non-uniformity, and curvature. Up to 2 layers can be measured simultaneously.
CTM measures the thickness of a sample by sensing the distance of the sample’s top and bottom surfaces simultaneously. It does this by using a lens that focuses different wavelengths (corresponding to different colours and therefore giving this measurement method its name) at different distances.
These measurement instruments can measure thickness in under as second. They simply connect to a computer’s USB port on a Windows computer.
They are suitable for use on coatings on almost any surface, as well as pharmaceutical tablets, wood and paper. Further uses include glass and plastic sheet, tubing, containers, and optical and ophthalmic lenses.
