Training in confined space emergency, rescue and retrieval plan from Vital Safety
Vital Safety’s training in confined space emergency plan is necessary for confined space entry. A very vital part of the emergency plan is the rescue and retrieval plan. The retrieval plan need to be rehearsed to perfection to demonstrate that it is effective and the plan and equipment selected is appropriate for the space to be entered.
Vital Safety feels that many would-be rescuers have died after they noticed that the selected self contained breathing apparatus could not fit through the manhole. The confined space emergency plan contains certain safety measures that includes Signal evacuation, Shutdown tools and evacuate through the nearest exit and call for assistance, Rescue or retrieve those in danger by assisting others only if it is safe to do so.
Strictly avoid entering a harmful atmosphere unless wearing a supplied air breathing apparatus, account for entrants, remain in the assembly area until all the people have been accounted for, start first aid and medical treatment immediately and designate first aiders.
Emergency equipment required and kept ready during emergency includes fire extinguisher, first aid kit, emergency lighting (torches), supplied air breathing apparatus, escape air, oxygen therapy, lifeline and retrieval system, stretcher and phone or 2-way radio.
