Urban rail underfloor lifting system
VECTOR Lifting has completed the underfloor lifting system for the Western Australian Government Railways Commission at the new Nowergup maintenance facility for Perth Urban Rail.
Facilitates safe, efficient, and rapid maintenance of railcar undercarriages.
A turntable and overhead travelling maintenance platform were also supplied and installed. The underfloor lifting system is very similar to an earlier model designed and installed for Westrail's Claisebrook maintenance facility, and has been developed to facilitate safe, efficient, and rapid maintenance of railcar undercarriages.
When not in use, the system is concealed below the floor. There are minimal gaps and no protrusions, providing a free floor area for safe use by personnel and vehicles. The design allows for efficient and thorough inspection and repairs to the equipment located underneath the railcar. It also allows the changing of bogies individually or all at the same time, while the railcar remains elevated and firmly supported. Bogies can be wheeled on auxiliary rails at floor level, under the elevated railcar. Once inspection and maintenance work is completed, the railcar can be safely lowered to floor level again within four minutes.
