VIP Packaging (New Zealand) has recently received a “Highly Commended” award in the category of Packaging Design at the Packaging Council of New Zealand’s biannual Environmental Packaging Awards.
The award, which also encompasses Sustainability Principles, was received for the company’s Paint Pails product. The product is manufactured from 100% post consumer injection material.
The idea behind the product originated in 2009, when VIP Packaging and Resene Paints decided to evaluate the feasibility of re-using plastic paint pails collected via the ResenePaintwise program.
A number of in-house trials concluded that pails manufactured from 100% post consumer material performed just as well as pails manufactured from virgin material.
It then made sense to for Resene to fill the plastic pails and distribute them through the supply to measure and ratify their performance.
The panel of judges serving at the Environmental Packaging Awards agreed that this entry deserved a Highly Commended award through its use of advanced technology to create a product that reduces environmental impact.
The Packaging Council of New Zealand’s Awards aim to recognise those organisations who engage in environmentally sound practices. The Awards also strive to highlight the importance of adopting methods that produce packaging that is environmentally sustainable.
