The Macarthur Wind Farm has chosen Astron underground cable covers for their premises. These unique cable covers are made from recycled plastic.
The project is the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere and represents an investment of approximately $1 billion.
Using plastic in such a commercially viable manner is a significant milestone for Astron. By supplying 96km of recycled underground cable covers to the wind farm, the company will prevent 130 tonnes of recycled plastic being kept from land fill.
Once completed, the Macarthur Wind Farm will consist of 140 win-turbines that will generate enough clean, green energy to power the equivalent of 220,000 average Victorian households per year. On average, the farm will decrease greenhouse gas emissions by over 1.7 million tonnes per year.
The Macarthur Wind Farm, situated 16km east of the township of Macarthur in Western Victoria, will contribute to the governments expanded Renewable Energy Targets, aimed at creating a sustainable energy future for all Australians.
