A new award promoting eye safety offers an array of prizes for one lucky TAFE student, their college and employer, plus an eye-related charity.
An all expenses paid VIP experience at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is the prize for TAFE students at the heart of the uvex Blackwoods TAFE Safety Award. The trip includes airfares and accommodation for two and, as an Official Technology Partner to Holden Racing Team, uvex Safety will also organise special access to the V8 SuperCar garage and pit area.
The award includes a $5000 grant for their college, a $4000 donation to charity and a $1000 Blackwoods voucher for the student's employer.
The uvex Blackwood TAFE Safety Award is open to all TAFE students in New South Wales studying a vocation that requires eye protection and is designed to lift the profile of eye safety. The latest figures from the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC) show 7650 workers lodge compensation claims for eye injuries every year.
To enter, students are asked to submit up to 100 words about how eye injuries can impact on their personal and professional lives or a photograph showing how a worker should be protected with appropriate eyewear. Each entry must be co-signed by the student's teacher acknowledging the student has demonstrated safe work practices at TAFE.
Entries close on 1 November 2004 with the winner announced on 3 December. Forms are available from participating TAFE colleges and for entry tips, entrants can visit uvex Safety Australia at The Safety Show Sydney, which runs from 13-15 October at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.
