B+K Precision, represented in Australia by Unispan Instruments , has released the Model 886 synthesised in-circuit LCR/ESR meter. The new lightweight, battery powered, hand-held unit can be used to test components at frequencies up to 100kHz.

The meter can test components at frequencies up to 100kHz and has been designed for both component evaluation on the production line and fundamental impedance testing from bench-top applications. Using the built-in test fixture, the user can test the lead components.

To ensure the performance of a circuit, the equivalent serial resistance (ESR) in a capacitor is the key element in determining efficiency and performance. With the 886, the user can quickly check the ESR of a capacitor in or out of a circuit.

Surface mount components are usually tiny and have no wire leads, making them more difficult to test. The included SMD test probe gives users an easy way to conduct SMD component testing. An optional four-wire test clip provides a convenient connection to larger components and assemblies with the accuracy of four-wire testing.

The meter offers a range of measurement parameters such as Z, L, C, DCR, ESR, D, Q, and Ø, and test conditions including 100Hz, 120Hz, 1kHz, 10kHz, 100kHz, 1V rms, 0.25V rms and 0.05V rms. It features dc-resistance measurement, rechargeable battery/ac power, 0.5% basic accuracy, a large dual LCD display, fully auto/manual selection, and very quick response. It comes with instruction manual, battery, an SMD surface mount probe and a carry case.
