B+K Precision, represented by Unispan Australia , has released two portable, lightweight network cable testers, the 230A multi-network cable tester and the 231A deluxe multi-network cable tester. These low-cost, battery-powered cable testers can be used for testing network cables in a fraction of a second.
They both have a protective rubber boot, a belt clip and a remote terminator storage compartment built in. They are suitable for use by MIS departments, IT directors and network system analysts to test all current network cables such as Fire Wire and Cat V cables.
The 230A is a portable, battery-powered, standalone network cable tester that can be used for testing network cables such as thin Ethernet (BNC), 10Base T (UTP/STP), 100BaseTx, RJ45, 356A, TIA-568A, and Token Ring cables. It detects miswiring, polarisation and continuity in seconds. It also tests the ground of shielded twisted-pair cables. The accompanying remote unit allows the user to remotely test installed cable either from the wall plate or patch panel. Front-panel-mounted LED displays provide a clear indication of problems. It weighs 172.52g and measures 60.325mm x 25.4mm x 107.95mm.
The 231A is a portable, battery-powered, standalone network cable tester that can be used to read the correct pin configuration of 10Base T cable (category 5), 100BaseTx, 10Base2 cable (coax) and RJ45/RJ11 modular cables, 356A, TIA-568A, TIA-568B and Token Ring cables by comparing one transmitting end to the corresponding receiving end. It is quick and easy to use and tests point-to-point rather than pair-to-pair. By using the supplied remote kit, the 231A can test cables installed as far away as 304.8m, either on a wall plate or patch panel. The 231A verifies the cable's continuity with easy-to-read LEDs and detects open, short, and cross connections by using the pin-out indicator's auto or manual scan features. It weighs 181.6g and measures 60.325mm x 25.4mm x 107.95mm.
