WITH a large number of product lines and packaging variations involving different sized and coloured containers, varying colours in caps, flip tops, pumps and closure threads, Ego Pharmaceuticals production manager Chris Long needed an ultra flexible filling line.
Unique Packaging supplied its new Asset AV-3 series semi-automatic filling machine which features a unique rotary valve metering system pneumatically operated for continuous, accurate filling with minimal operator needs.
The valve system will handle products ranging from thin liquids to creams and thick pastes. It will even accurately fill products containing suspended solids -- a task that previously required two different types of filling machine or expensive change parts.
Tony Phillips, CEO of Unique Packaging, says the Asset range can incorporate variable speed and volumetric filling with quick change cylinder sets and full automation if required.
Both fully automatic and semi-automatic machines can be purpose designed as required. Semi-automatic models can incorporate a recycling system, while fully automated models are integrated with conveyor flow.
Control cabinets are all stainless steel, while all contact parts feature a special 'easy clean' finish of 316 stainless steel.
The design of the Asset AV-3 filling machine makes it easy to pull apart -- an important consideration in terms of microbiological cleaning methods.
Ego's Asset AC-1 semi-automatic cap tightening machine accurately secures a range of caps from 10mm closures to cosmetic caps or 100mm wide mouth jars.
Typical throughputs range from 15 to 30 units a minute while a single handwheel and lock ring allows very rapid height adjustment for different containers.
Tightening dwell time is adjusted by a turn of a pneumatic timer knob while a range of five standard interchangeable tightening chuck sizes and three standard liner materials will handle almost all capping applications.
