Unique Micro Design (UMD) has introduced the Gemini series of NFC modules to its range of SkyeTek RFID developer kits.
With each developer kit providing all the hardware and software required to start, including RFID modules and antennas, sample RFID tags, demo software, device drivers, design guides and application notes, customers find it particularly useful in integrating RFID into their products.
SkyeTek’s SkyeModule Gemini is a low-cost, low power MIFARE and NFC reader/writer module based on 13.56MHz HF technology using the ISO14443A and MIFARE standards.
The Gemini module is designed to be embedded into devices requiring MIFARE and NFC features such as kiosk and vending machines, and is ideal for medical, ticketing, safety or security applications due to its support for secure MIFARE tags. The small size of the module allows the Gemini to fit into almost any new or existing OEM design while its low power features such as deep sleep or standby mode make it suitable for power sensitive applications.
Features of SkyeModule Gemini module also include a wide input power supply range (2.0-5.5V), sleep mode current down to 10uA, easy migration to and from the SkyeModule M2 and M4, and supported host interfaces such as USB, TTL level RS232, SPI and I2C. Since the Gemini module connector uses the Common Blade Interface, it can connect to the same interface board as used by other Common Blade devices such as SkyeTek SkyeModule M2, M4, M7, M9 and M10.
Support of NFC tags and NFC peer-to-peer and tag emulation modes as defined by ISO18092 are some of the future enhancements to the Gemini module. Additional enhancements such as 3DES and AES authentication for MIFARE Ultralight C and Plus tags are also presently in development.
