Ultraspin Technology recently supplied OS35 and OS70 oily water separators to various Transnet Rail Engineering sites across South Africa that were designed to separate oil from water to meet sewer discharge standards.

Due to poor recovery of oil with rope skimmers there was a definite need to upgrade the effluent plants across all Transnet Rail Engineering sites. Transnet were using rope skimmers which were not effective at meeting discharge standards. The rope skimmers also required man power to try and keep the system operating.

The installation of Ultraspin oily water separators to replace all poor rope skimmers that were not meeting targets allowed Transnet Rail Engineering to efficiently remove oil and treat water on various sites.

As a result Transnet Rail Engineering now meet the sewer discharge standards and have a high oil recovery record. By replacing rope skimmers they have also managed to lower operator costs.

The specific oily water separation equipment supplied to Transnet Rail Engineering included:

  • Ultraspin OS35 and OS70 oily water separation systems
  • L1 Level Switch
  • S1 Skimmer + hose
  • oil collection tank
  • primary skimming system.
