Ultra-Dynamics have announced that their Ultramoist microwave moisture monitor is selected for supply to the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG), new coal export project at Kooragang Island, Port of Newcastle. The facility is required to meet the coal production from the region. Stage 1 of the facility will be capable of handling 30 mtpa coal, which will be supplied by a number of coal producers including:
- Hunter Valley Coal Energy (a subsidiary of BHP Billiton)
- Excel Coal Limited (a subsidiary of Peabody Pacific)
- White Mining (a subsidiary of Felix Resources)
- Donaldson Coal
- Whitehaven Coal Mining
- Centennial Coal Company
Two moisture monitors are to be supplied, which will be used to ensure compliance with the contract moisture specification as well as to control dust emissions at the site. The application is a demanding one, which will require the moisture monitors to measure the moisture content of deep beds of coal in excess of 600mm.
Ultramoist microwave moisture monitor has been applied to deep beds of coal including the need to measure through steel cord reinforced conveyor belts.
