Function/Applications
The new Trimble® IS Rover combines GNSS (GPS & GLONASS signals) and optical data collection on the rover pole. Customers who already own the individual components of the Trimble IS Rover can take advantage of this system immediately without purchasing additional equipment. It is a unique patented Trimble solution that offers surveyors enormous advantages in the field:

Increase flexibility:
Optical total stations are well suited to small surveying areas with clear lines of sight; GNSS system is well suited to large surveying areas with no overhead obstructions. Combining both techniques thus provides enormous flexibility.

Time savings:
When measuring a point close to a building or under a tree where GNSS is not available, use optical total station technology. When measuring beyond robotic range or out of sight of the total station, quickly and easily switch to GNSS. You don't need to set up the total station again.

Increased efficiency on control surveys:
Use GNSS to establish control over larger areas for total station surveys, or use optical technology to quickly establish local GNSS calibration parameters.

Measurement confidence:
Applications such as cadastral surveys often require independent verification. Measuring points with GPS and optical technology provides an efficient and effective way to obtain measurement verification. The Trimble IS rover lets you do this in a single occupation of the point.

Independence:
One surveyor can use both technologies. However, if a survey needs to be completed more quickly, then the technologies can be easily separated and operated independently to dramatically decrease survey time. Trimble software will easily combine the acquired data in one homogenous data set.
