Logistics & Materials Handling, Ferret.com.au's sister publication, held its annual Mercury Awards last week in Sydney. The Awards "celebrate the achievements of industry leaders in their drive to achieve 'best practice', excellence and innovation in Australia’s logistics, supply chain and materials handling industry."

Among the winners on the night was Trimble Australia , which took out the Technology Application Award for the implementation of its GeoManager Fleet Management system for WesTrac's Newcastle project.

When sourcing a fleet management solution, WesTrac was looking for a solution that would drive improvements across multiple fronts while helping to centralise the company's job dispatch and management system.

Upon identifying Trimble's offering as a viable solution, the company began with a pilot in Thornton NSW, which involved 14 vehicles installed with a GeoManager unit.

Trimble GeoManager is a cloud-based field service management solution that has been designed to assist businesses of all sizes to improve productivity and increase profits while reducing operating costs.

Trimble states that GeoManager can assist companies to:
  • improve customer service with on-time service delivery (appointments) and faster response times
  • increase productivity using real-time location intelligence and trip management benefits; and
  • reduce costs by lowering fuel use and improving the way assets are used.
It offers on-demand visibility into vehicle and mobile worker utilisation, allowing users to identify, manage and improve areas such as driver safety, customer service, back office administration, fuel use and fleet efficiency, fleet management, driver safety and work management.
