A NEW iglidur polymer bearing from German company igus, and available from Treotham Trading , has a wear resistance three times better than conventional bearings under extreme loads, working maintenance-free up to 250°C.
In oscillating movements, the iglidur Z can take loads up to 130MPa and speeds up to 0.012m/s simultaneously, and gives a pv value of more than 1.5MPa m/s - even when rotating.
As the chemical resistance and moisture absorption properties of this new bearing are very good, it is suitable for difficult applications in the food and packaging industries.
At high temperatures, iglidur Z has excellent resistance to wear. For an unchanged load and speed, the wear on iglidur Z only doubles when the application temperature is increased from 20°C to 150°C.
In a test scenario, where the objective was to minimise noise and wear on a bus suspension system with a maximum pressure of 120MPa, iglidur Z produced an outcome that combated all noise problems and showed minimum wear after 25,000 miles of working in an extremely dirty environment.
