Until recently there was no serious alternative to the large-scale use of graphite bearings in pumps for underwater applications. The new bearings reduce the degree of wear by a factor of 10 compared to graphite bearings. The material has been tested in long-term endurance tests and has proved to be extremely resistant to abrasion.
In the course of developing this underwater bearing, two variants of the material performed equally well. The Iglidur UW has excellent resistance to wear but is also very inexpensive. However, the second material has significantly higher thermal stability, making it appropriate for applications in the automotive industry. Iglidur UW plain bearings are manufactured in various sizes as bearing bushes ready to be installed. The manufacturer complies with the special requirements of pump manufacturers and also offers special sizes and special versions.
