RFID solution specialists, RFIDEA, and Toshiba TEC recently teamed up for the 2008 Belgian F1 Grand Prix to implement a global secured RFID controlled access solution for all 300,000 expected visitors.
As RFIDEA’s preferred Auto ID Printer partner, Toshiba TEC has worked with the company to showcase their RFID-based access control know-how before, at the 2007 Grand Prix F1’s VIP Stand.
Impressed by the high level of quality, security, reliability and ease of use of the secure access solution, organisers of the Belgian F1 Grand Prix have now requested RFIDEA to expand their proven concept to deliver a total solution for 300,000 tickets and 85 entry points of the 3-day motoring event.
Each ticket in which the chip has been pre-programmed will include unique information peculiar to the type of authorised access in the ticket. Security officials equipped with a PDA will scan every visitor’s RFID-tagged entry ticket upon entry. The information will then be wirelessly uploaded to a secure network server acting as the event’s real-time management control system.
Such a prestigious and world-class event as this often faces several access control challenges, including forged tickets, fans moving in and out of the event area, ticket printing errors, and crowd flow management. Toshiba TEC ID Printer hardware and RFIDEA’s know-how delivered a flexible secure RFID controlled access solution that eliminated these challenges while increasing the security level.
The Toshiba TEC B-SX4 RFID-ready HF barcode printer flawlessly delivered 300,000 RFID-tagged F1 tickets that automatically allowed thousands of fans a fast track entry in a fluid and uninterrupted way.
Each fan, whether they bought their ticket online or from an official Grand Prix sales point, had in hand a unique entry ticket that defined one of more than 50 different types of ticket, indicating the nearest parking area, validity of the ticket and its price, a serial number and the individual seating number.
This high-tech secure RFID controlled access solution is applicable to other sporting events such as soccer and tennis as well as international cultural events on a worldwide basis.
