Toshiba Corporation has launched a new range of brushed motor pre-driver ICs for automotive safety applications.
Safety-critical automotive systems such as electric power steering (EPS) in vehicles must meet the requirements of ASIL-D, the highest automotive safety integrity level prescribed in ISO 26262 Road Vehicles – Functional Safety.
Toshiba’s new brushed motor pre-driver IC integrates essential functions, including a pre-driver circuit and motor current detection circuit in addition to various failure detection circuits for higher functional safety.
Several functional safety analyses have also been conducted by Toshiba to simulate various system failures; customers will be provided with documentation to support safety analysis and design for the ICs.
Key features of the Toshiba TB9052FNG brushed motor pre-driver ICs include built-in motor current detection circuit to simplify the system and reduce PCB size; motor current detection circuit with redundant configuration for functional safety; selectable sequence control or direct control; and selectable control by pre-driver or MCU on detection of failure.
