Tetra PAK Oceania delivered world-class processing and packaging equipment to Pactum Dairy Group at its new Shepparton factory in addition to identifying and training the right people to operate the machinery.

As equipment becomes more sophisticated, beverage companies need to find and train the right technicians and operators to operate new factories.

Louise Birnie, Human Resources Director at Tetra Pak Oceania commented that Pactum Dairy Group not only commissioned Tetra Pak to deliver this new factory for them to achieve their business goals, but also trusted them to help find and train the very best technicians and operators. The factory includes three Tetra Pak A3/Speed lines capable of filling 24,000 portion packs per hour.

In the months leading up to the Shepparton factory's opening, Tetra Pak recruitment specialists put candidates through a series of practical exercises tailored for positions such as filler operators, plant operators, maintenance staff and forklift drivers. This included production planning, role play, observation skills and practical exercises in assembling filling machine components and identifying different materials.

Birnie explains that Tetra Pak's systematic selection process puts candidates through a series of scenarios and practical exercises with assessments helping their customers with hiring decisions.

According to Pactum factory manager Mark McWhirter, with a new factory, they needed to recruit and train the best people; the assistance from Tetra Pak was a valuable input to ensure Pactum could hit the ground running, maximising production efficiency from day one.

Tetra Pak’s systematic selection process and training services are available to all customers with the training services covering operations, maintenance and quality assurance.

Tetra Pak also provided training services to operators at Fonterra's Waitoa plant. Fonterra's Kate Strahan said that the operators found Tetra Pak trainers to be very knowledgeable and passionate about their topic, which has also rubbed off on the operators.
