TESTEQUIP has announced a new generation of versatile, high resolution digital microscopes from Scalar in Japan. The Model DG-2A is a complete system based around a high resolution digital camera.
The range of lenses and accessories, along with the level of definition and portability, make this a versatile and important tool for any organisation involved in research or quality control in the aeronautical, aerospace, automotive, security industries and agriculture, according to Testequip's managing director, Ulrich Duenzl.
"This is the same system that is used by NASA to inspect the wings and fuselage of the space shuttle."
Many people in these industries will be familiar with the Pro-Scope from Scalar. Whereas the Pro-Scope can be connected via a USB port to virtually any desktop PC or laptop computer, the DG-2A delivers such high levels of resolution that the system must be used with its own type 2, LCD high speed monitor.
Images can then be transferred via CF memory cards or fed directly to a VCR. The large range of available lenses means that video or still images can be acquired from a huge range of situations.
High resolution lenses to x1000 magnification, micro-macro lenses to x100 magnification and standard lenses of x30 to x200 lead the option list that is supported by a wide range of specialist lenses including; fisheye, coaxial illumination, zoom (to x200 magnification), bore, side viewing, uv/visible, infrared/visible, side lighting, endoscopes, non-shadow and phase contrast lenses.
Accessories include optional battery and charger variants, wireless adaptors, hoods, microscope stands, PCMCIA adaptor cards and large capacity CF memory cards.
The business end of the system is transported in an attractive carry case making it ideal for use in fieldwork, on-site or in non-destructive testing applications.
Applications such as recording automotive paint imperfections, insects, textile fibres, windscreen impacts and searching inside equipment and crevices are common.
