It is remarkable how increased functionality has been achieved within ever-smaller mobile telephones, personal audio players and other portable devices.
To make this possible, the mounting area for operating devices has been continuously reduced, and the demand for small-format surface-mounting parts has been increasing.
Particular attention is now focusing on the side-push type of switch because it allows side-mounted functions and greater versatility in set design.
This side-push tact switch, available through Tenrod , moves the mounting position closer to the outer edge, thereby achieving a slimmer and more compact format measuring 3.50mm wide x 3.55mm deep x 1.25mm high, smaller than a grain of rice.
In addition, with its highly robust soldered construction, the side-push type tact switch can withstand horizontal pressure on the circuit board.
Engineering design was perfected using linear and non-linear simulations in CAE (Computer Aided Engineering), and with the product's mounting area contained within the smallest possible size, it accomplishes the leading high-strength soldering in the industry.
Furthermore, the metal dome contact is covered by an adhesive sheet, which seals the construction and provides superior protection against the intrusion of foreign particles and thus the operating device assures the highest reliability.
The product is available in two operating capacity levels, and a positioning boss can also be added to give a total of four variations, which greatly contributes to product engineering and manufacturing versatility.
