CWUF sand filters from Tema Engineers have the capacity to filter very high flow rates and high levels of suspended solids in raw water. CWUF sand filters are up flow, deep bed, granular media filters featuring continuous backwash. Compact single or multiple filters modules can be installed to a new plant or to expand the capacity of an existing one. It is flexible enough to fit almost any space and can be used free standing or in concrete tanks.

Benefits of the CWUF sand filters include:

  • These sand filters offer minimal power requirements and automatic operation lower your running costs
  • The sand filters contain only a few moving parts, delivering reliable operation and low maintenance costs
  • Continuous backwashing on the sand filters removes need for backwash water storage or pumps, creating further savings on space and running costs
How the sand filters work:

The CWUF sand filters works on the upstream principle. The raw water is distributed via an inlet in the bottom section of the filter. Water flows up through the sand bed, where it is cleaned and flows out at the top of the filter. Pollutants from the sand filters remain in the sand bed. The contaminated sand is transported from the bottom section  by an air-lift pump to the sand washer at the top of the filter. The air-lift pump cleans the filter sand with a stirring action which releases the dirt particles. The contaminated sand flows out of the pump outlet, flowing down into the washing chamber where impurities are guided upwards to the washing water outlet. The sand, being heavier than the contaminants, returns to the lower sand bed where it re-enters the upstream cycle.

Experienced engineers can customise all sand filters to cater for individual requirements and match them with their other products for a complete water processing solution.
