Operating an eleven crane general hire fleet from Gunnedah in northern NSW, Stuart Grosser and Daniel Hawkins of GBP Cranes have invested further by adding a new Tadano ATF-220G-5 crane to their fleet.

The first Tadano ATF 220G-5 sold into NSW by Tadano Oceania , this is definitely an impressive all terrain crane. With a maximum lifting capacity of 220t, hydraulic boom length of 68m and a fly jib of 37.2m (total 105.2m), this is a crane designed to be mobile yet capable of handling the big lifting jobs.

Operating in the heart of a coal mining region, GBP Cranes has rightly targeted the mining sector for their new Tadano ATF-220G-5 all terrain crane.

“We run a very mixed fleet of cranes for general crane hire work,” says Grosser.

“In our fleet are 5 Franna’s, 2 x 55t Tadano truck cranes, two all terrains 65 Tonne and 100 Tonne, and an 80t crawler.”

Over the past year the demand for a bigger crane in the mining area has grown, with a need for greater lifting capacity in maintenance and new plant construction. GBP Cranes already have Tadano 65t All Terrain and 100t Liebherr all terrain cranes so Grosser and Hawkins set about looking for something bigger.

After looking at various available options, GBP settled on the Tadano ATF 220G-5 all terrain crane. Their experience with the brand already they knew by making this decision they would be provided with not only a highly reliable product but also the exceptional technical and parts backup support Tadano are renowned for.

“The other factor that motivated us to place our order with Tadano was their delivery time. They were able to supply much quicker than the other brands, so we decided to get the order in and the crane into the field as quickly as possible,” says Grosser.

“And we’ve certainly had no regrets as a result. The crane was delivered early in 2011 and we have found it to be an excellent unit. It is easy to operate and very user friendly, even with all the computer technology on board,” he concludes.

Another important factor for GBP Cranes is the road speed to get from job to job. Even at a transportation weight of 60t, the Tadano ATF 220G-5 all terrain crane does 85 km/h.

The Tadano model ATF220G-5 is a five axle all terrain crane roadable at 12t per axle (in some states), with full hydraulic suspension, 85 kph road speed, and 69% gradeability (dependant on tyre sizes).
