One-chip GPS module for mobile handsets

Supplier News

EPSON, represented by TE Australia , has developed a single-chip global positioning system (GPS) module whose size and high sensitivity (-160 dBm max.) make it suitable for use in mobile handsets equipped with built-in GPS support.

The S4E19863 GPS module supports the three 3GPP-compliant positioning modes (MS-Based, MS-Assisted, and Autonomous) for GPS positioning performance in any application and under any network environment.

It offers a time to first fix (TTFF) of two to three seconds when used outdoors, with a hot start or server-assist. This rises to seven seconds indoors, with a hot start or server-assist. Positions are fixed within 10m outdoors or 35m indoors. The chip measures 13mm x 8mm x 1.28mm.
