A planetary gearbox is an in-line gear reducer designed for direct mounting to a servomotor. The motor power is transmitted to the sun gear which in turn drives the planet gears contained within an internal tooth ring gear. The planet carrier supports the planet gear and delivers output rotation.
Our range of planetary gearboxes are supplied with a two screw clamping coupling to secure the input shaft to the motor shaft and can be mounted to any motor appropriate for the gearboxes torque ratings. There is also an extensive range of standard motor flange adaptor plates available for each size gearbox for all popular servomotors and we can even have unique flanges manufactured upon request, if required. ll of the gears encased in the planetary gearboxes have been case hardened to 58-62 HRC and ground to DIN 6 to 5 standards. The teeth on the gears have been modified to reduce friction, increase lifetime and offers quite operation. Standard gearboxes are available with an output torque rating up to 12100 Nm.
One of the unique characteristics of planetary gearboxes is the low backlash that the gearboxes can be assembled with. As little as 1 arc-min backlash. Arc-min backlash is a reticule of 60 divisions, corresponding to one degree on the circle. There is 360° in one shaft revolution; each degree is divided into 60 therefore 1 arc-min equals 1/60th of a degree. This reduction in backlash enables a machine to carry out very precise applications.
This range of planetary gearboxes from T.E.A. Transmissions can also be combined with a low backlash right angled box to enable transmission of rotary motion and power between 90° angle shafts with ratio’s as high as 100:1. All planetary gearboxes are also available in a full stainless steel washdown version with IP67.
