BILLS of Materials (BoMs) and manuals are just some of the production documents that can be instantly generated from CAD drawings with SysproCAD - a new tool to be launched by Syspro at National Manufacturing Week (NMW 2004) to he held in Sydney in June.
SysproCAD is an integration tool that links AutoDesk's AutoCAD with enterprise resource planning. By feeding CAD drawing data directly into production data, it streamlines a manufacturer's entire quote-to-manufacture process.
With SysproCAD, the drawing becomes a fully interactive document. It allows auto-generation of BoMs, parts lists, manuals and other production documents from CAD directly into the production system.
Quotes and BoMs - even for very complex equipment - are one hundred percent accurate because part codes and BoMs are validated in real time and changes to the BoM and part details happen immediately.
"If you have hundreds or even thousands of drawings archived on AutoCAD, then SysproCAD can import every single drawing and part number automatically - there's no need for any re-keying and the process is error free," says Syspro managing director Paul Addison.
SysproCAD allows engineers to turn round estimates for clients in a matter of hours, rather than days or weeks. Furthermore, estimating and quoting is synchronised. Production lead-time can be significantly reduced since the estimate matches the manufacturing BoM.
"Designers can work with the parts information they have readily at hand. All they need is a part number or product description, the rest is done automatically," says Addison.
SysproCAD stores all the parts information on the drawing, so engineers can create error-free parts lists and manuals in Microsoft Word instantly.
Storing information on the drawing rather than in a separate database also means it can be viewed by other users from a single, self-contained document, and easily maintained.
The system further tightens relations with supply chain partners. Once the parts have been identified (by selecting them on a parts manual page) then they can be added to a basket and automatically ordered.
