With the announcements of expansion by sister companies in Asia, Swire Cold Storage has been working in close collaboration with Swire Cold Storage Vietnam (SCSV) and Finlay Cold Storage in Sri Lanka to support further development within the region and continue to build upon its truly international logistics network.
With approval for a major expansion, SCSV will consolidate its position as the largest and most sophisticated cold store in Vietnam. Experiencing phenomenal growth since its founding in 1998, from 4,300 pallet spaces to an 18,300 pallet space facility in just under 7 years, SCSV will almost double in size to 36,500 pallet spaces.
"The staff have embraced the latest expansion with the same vibrant enthusiasm they have approached each of the previous ones. The operations staff are delighted to have a bigger facility, while the marketing staff are actively planning to fill it," says Graham Sanders, Managing Director, SCSV.
Concentrating on the premium end of the cold storage market, the facility offers a broad range of value-added services such as inventory control, fast product turnaround, service integrity and more, whilst servicing a number of commodity sectors including frozen seafood, imported meat, fruit pulp, and ice cream to name but a few.
SCSV is the only customs bonded refrigerated warehouse in Vietnam and, in addition, is the largest document storage warehouse in the country - storing 50,000 cartons of paper records for major banks, insurance, auditing and industrial firms.
The next step for SCSV will be to extend support for its customers with a second store in Ho Chi Minh City and possibly facilities in Hanoi and the Mekong Delta.
Sri Lankan operations receive a boost
Further to the Swire group's Vietnam expansion, Finlay Cold Storage in Sri Lanka (FCSSL) is also set for further works. In just one year since opening in 2005, FCSSL has outgrown its premises, with the expansion set to double its capacity from 4,500 pallet spaces to 9,100 in October 2006.
Finlays provides cold storage services primarily to the domestic food processing industry and concentrates on ice cream, smallgoods, frozen poultry and frozen seafood.
In February Swire Cold Storage played host to Mohan Bibile, Operations Manager, and Gihan Jayasinghe, CEO Designate, of FCSSL during a visit to Australia. The visit aimed at exposing both to a broad range of customers, facilities and operations within Swire Cold Storage nationally.
"The customer requirements in Sri Lanka are quite specific and we are looking to benchmark procedures and systems in Australia with what we currently do in Sri Lanka. The visit will also give Gihan a feel for Australian operations, the types of products handled, systems of handling, customer reporting requirements and IT services," says Sam Czyczelis, General Manager Finlay Cold Storage.
Gihan will soon take over from Sam Czyczelis at Finlay Cold Storage Sri Lanka and vows to continue Finlays future development and excellent humanitarian work.
"Since the Tsunami disaster of 2005 Finlay Cold Storage Sri Lanka has been working to help those affected and rebuild a shattered community. As the incoming CEO Designate I will continue the good work already undertaken and would like to take this opportunity to thank all Swire group companies, employees and suppliers that contributed to the relief effort," says Gihan Jayasinghe.
