Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia  (SCLAA) has announced that Hal Morris, chief executive officer for the Australian Logistics Council will be one of the keynote speakers for the Sydney Supply Chain Conference which will be held at Matex 2008 on the 15th and 16th of April.

Hal Morris will be presenting a paper entitled - National Transport and Logistics Freight Strategy 2008 – 2015, Enhancing Australia’s Supply Chains. This presentation will provide the vision, strategic direction, actions and commitments needed by industry and government to meet the needs of Australia’s Transport and Logistics sector until the year 2015.

In consultation with all levels of government and champions of industry, this comprehensive report was developed for approval and implementation.

Seven key areas were identified to move forward, leadership, people, safety, efficiency, energy, environment, innovation, technology and investment.

Peter Melville, integrated logistics manager- Oceania, Maersk Australia will also be presenting a paper entitled - The limitations of infrastructure: - Is better supply chain management the answer?

Peter’s presentation will focus on how the importation of goods is growing at over 8% each year with shipping container traffic due to double by 2020 with China the major source. Ports are struggling with access and depth. Melbourne is dredging their harbour to handle larger ships but what about Sydney.

Are Newcastle and Wooloongong ports an option? Sydney road systems have a number of bottlenecks and it’s getting worse. Congestion is a major issue today in Australia, UK and central Europe as global trade expands.

Our rail system is going through massive change, its poorly maintained and needs significant capital expenditure to cope with the future load demand. Higher fuel prices and new legislative compliance is impacting on heavy vehicle movements around the country. What are some solutions?
