With an increasing trend in recent years towards outsourcing manufacturing and importing from low-cost offshore locations, the average Australian Supply Chain has become a lot more complicated.

Goods often arrive at the DC unannounced, unexpected, and without the paperwork and labelling which an efficient DC requires to maintain high productivity.

And while rummaging through a container of unlabelled cartons, trying to match the goods within to a particular PO may seem like fun to those of your staff who enjoy a good brain teaser, would not it be nicer to be able just to scan the goods at the receiving dock against an ASN, get them located and allocated as soon as possible and on their way to your customer?

In this session, Manhattan Associates will discuss how companies like Nike, Nautica and Hot Topic have dealt with the problems they experienced in dealing with offshore suppliers (as well as local ones that are not so technology savvy), increasing warehouse productivity and decreasing costs in the process.

Speaker: Jim Brownell, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development – Retail, Manhattan Associates USA. Jim Brownell comes to Manhattan Associates having been focused on Supply Chain, e-commerce and order management solutions for retail since 1990.

Prior to joining Manhattan Associates, Jim spent 25 years in information technology at leadings retailers including: GAP, Williams-Sonoma, Coldwater Creek, J. Crew and Toys-R-Us.com in a variety of roles.

More recently, he was the Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer at Coldwater Creek, Inc., and was in charge of information technology for this multichannel retailer.

Prior to joining Coldwater Creek, Jim Brownell was Chief Operating Officer for Escalate, a leading provider of order management and e-commerce solutions.

While at Escalate, he directed the transformation of the company into a retail focused organisation positioning it for future acquisition by GERS.

He was responsible for transactions involving Home Depot, Restoration Hardware, Eddie Bauer and Williams-Sonoma. Previously, Jim held the positions of Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer at Williams-Sonoma; Vice President, Information Technology at Toys-R-Us; Vice President, Supply Chain Systems at Gap; and Group Vice President and Chief Information Officer at J. Crew.
