Some of Australia’s best known companies use the world class industrial chillers engineered and built by Summit Matsu Chillers. The customer list includes CSIRO, Hewlett Packard, BHP Billiton and Leighton Contractors.
In 2008 Summit Matsu Chillers supplied two well known companies, Boral Limited and Thiess with industrial chillers for their operations in the construction of the third stage of the Hinze Dam Project on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
Thiess is a leading Australian construction, civil engineering and mining company specialising in infrastructure projects ranging from highways and airports to dams, ports and hospitals.
Boral Limited is a major Australian building and construction materials specialist, manufacturing and supplying products to some of the largest construction projects and companies in Australia.
Designed for construction in three stages, the Hinze Dam project is in its third and final stage with construction currently in progress and carried out by the Hinze Dam Alliance. The Alliance comprises of Seqwater as the owner with private sector partners URS, SKM and Thiess.
The new storage capacity will be approximately 310,000 million litres and involves raising the dam by 15 metres to offer increased capacity as well as flood mitigation in the lower Nerang River on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Proposed to be completed by the end of 2010, the dam upgrade will increase the potential water supply to 225 million litres per day and is a key component of the Gold Coast's blueprint for sustaining the city's water resources for the next 50 years.
The industrial chiller supplied to Thiess by Summit Matsu Chillers is used to chill water down to low temperatures, which is then sprayed over aggregate for concrete pouring.
Cooling materials to low temperatures is essential as the cooler the concrete is at pouring time, the stronger it will get throughout the curing process.
Since installation, 60,000 cubic metres of aggregate has been cooled by the industrial chiller. The chiller is considered a critical part of operations and has been operating without any problem for over 2½ years.
The industrial chiller installed for Boral is used for their batch concrete plant operations at the Hinze Dam. The chiller cools down water to low temperatures to ensure optimal strength during the curing process of the concrete.
