Strathclyde Machine Tools has completed the installation of a specialised CNC EDM for Lufthansa in the Philippines.
Strathclyde was successful in offering a turnkey installation for Lufthansa against stiff competition from Europe. The application was for the EDMing of engine components for the GE equipped AIRBUS aircraft.
Previously these components were EDMed separately with a total time of 60 hours per complete segment, requiring the use of up to 14 electrodes. Strathclyde was able to design a process to reduce the machining time to 6 hours with 1 electrode, while still achieving the exacting tolerances required. Strathclyde personnel have vast experience in EDM practices gained through their operations worldwide and are able to use this knowledge to achieve solutions to complex machining problems outstanding solutions to complex machining problems.
