Storage Ideas supplied selective pallet racking systems to Premier Warehousing and Distribution, a third-party service provider that had moved into a new building in Sydney’s western suburbs.
Premier’s business involves the storage and distribution of goods on behalf of customers. Having outgrown its previous facility, Premier had moved into the new 4500m² building in Seven Hills. This new facility was also designed to include a state-of-the-art computerised inventory control system.
Premier had previously engaged Storage Ideas to provide its expertise and was happy to do so again.
The combined resources of both organisations were brought together to design this new facility, ensuring the design met the requirements of Premier’s diverse customer base, while allowing the flexibility to meet the needs of new customers.
Selective pallet racking six levels (7.5m) high, capable of carrying 1000kg pallet loads were installed in Premier’s new facility, providing a total storage capacity of 3200 pallet positions and more than doubling the previous capacity.
Space efficiency has been maximised using electric reach trucks in 2.9m wide aisles. Carefully positioned drive-through cross aisles were designed with storage above to maximise use of all available space without affecting access or operational functionality.
Storage Ideas was also commissioned to install chain wire fences and sliding gates in the warehouse to create a secure area for high value items.
The investment in this new facility and inventory control system combined with expert advice from Storage Ideas relating to storage and materials handling equipment has provided Premier with a growth plan for up to 10 years.
Selective pallet racks
Considered the most common method of storing pallets of goods, selective pallet racking provides ready access to every pallet and can be serviced by virtually any type of forklift including counterbalanced forklifts, reach trucks and turret trucks.
Ideal for storing a large number of lines of relatively low volumes, selective pallet racking offers benefits such as immediate access to any pallet; low cost solution; versatile and easily reconfigurable design; suitable for order picking; and enabling stock rotation.
