Stirlings Australia has reacted to increasing interest in low nickel grades stainless steel or no nickel grade stainless steel, like Austral Wright Metals 404GP and 445M2, by initiating research on low nickel stainless steel grades, including ferretic grades.
Stirlings Australia’s marketing manager, Melvin Tang, said no-nickel or low-nickel grades have gained popularity because of the recent high prices in stainless steel.
“Clearly there is some level of cost saving using low-nickel grades, however for us and possibly most of the industry, it is still a relatively untested product, and we want to make sure the properties these low or no-nickel grades are promoting will translate to real long-term value to our customers, because that’s what we’re about,” he said.
