A tougher regulatory regime has resulted in the EPA imposing over $1.26 million in fines on businesses in 2011-2012.

Combined with legal costs, remediation costs and the resultant cost of infrastructure upgrades, the total cost to business in NSW is closer to $4 million.

According to NSW EPA chair Barry Buffier, these fines deliver a clear message to businesses that they will have to face the consequences if they break the law and cause environmental harm.

A waste transport company in Bathurst was at the receiving end of the largest penalty for the year with over $375,000 in fines and costs for causing pollution to a local farm.

Spill Station Australia offers a comprehensive range of spill control and response equipment designed to help companies to cost effectively avoid prosecution.
