SPILL Station Australia has released a filter system for the utilities sector that reduces the cost of draining pits after rain.
Previously, the only method available was to have the pit pumped out by a commercial operator. This led to expensive and time-consuming delays for customers, contractor downtime and the cost of the pump out.
The new system is made up of an inner "sacrificial" filter, a stainless steel adaptor and an outer filter tube. The inner filter collects any particulate matter or oil from runoff, allowing cleaned water to pass through. The outer filter tube gives a final polish to the water and retains any superfines that have passed through the initial filtration. The adaptor is fitted with a 1600kPa pressure gauge to indicate when the inner filter needs changing.
