Australian Satellite Services has launched a new Internet via two-way satellite system that rapidly transfers data back and forth from remote mine sites.
Its new two-way satellite service is based around a satellite control centre, known as a hub, located in Adelaide with a geostationary satellite with a footprint across Australia. This communicates between the company hub and the customer.
To access the system, a VSAT (very small aperture terminal) is installed at the remote mining site and is configured to talk to the hub. It provides flexible high-speed communications.
The system eliminates any reliance on terrestrial lines.
