Southern Cross Compressors nanofibre technology air filters

Supplier News

Southern Cross Compressors Australia Pty Ltd  offers expert advice on the appropriate air compressor filters to be set up for any operation.

Compressed air in industrial applications results in more than 100 million polluting particles for every 1.0 Nm³ of compressed air. Most of these particles are less than 5 microns in size and cannot be intercepted by standard intake filters installed in typical air compressors.

Compressed air contains minute traces of oil aerosols and oil vapour, which when entrained in the airstream cause damage to system components as well as product spoilage. Fitting the appropriate compressed air filters can prevent these particles from entering the airstream.

Air filters are not only required by oil lubricated compressors but also ‘oil free’ compressors that can still draw in oil and oil vapours from the environment.

Southern Cross offers four types of nanofibre technology-based air compressor filters.

QF Series solid contaminant pre-filters

  • Suitable for the removal of solid particles down to 5 micron including liquids, emulsions and oil particles
  • Strong mechanical resistance protects compressed air system
  • Ideal as a post-filter for adsorption air dryers
  • Grade: 5 micron
  • Max. working temperature: 100ºC
  • Pressure drop: Dry - 0.05 bar, Wet - 0.08 bar
PF Series coalescing pre-filters
  • Interception type filter suitable for solid and oil particles up to 1 micron and 0.1 mg/m³
  • Operates by building up liquid particles into droplets, which drop out under gravity to the bottom of the filter and drain away
  • Grade: 1 micron
  • Residual oil content: 0.1 mg/m³ @ 20ºC
  • Max. working temperature: 120ºC
  • Pressure drop: Dry - 0.1 bar, Wet - 0.16 bar
HF Series coalescing filters
  • Removes solid and liquid particles down to 0.01 micron and 0.01 mg/m³
  • Similar to the PF series filters, only differing in the degree of filtration
  • Air passing through is essentially 99.99% oil-free
  • Ideal for operations requiring instrument quality compressed air
  • Grade: 0.01 micron
  • Residual oil content: 0.01 mg/m³ @ 20ºC
  • Max. working temperature: 120ºC
  • Pressure drop: Dry - 0.1 bar, Wet - 0.18 bar
CF Series activated carbon filters
  • Specifically designed for industrial use where oil free air needs to be created through removal of oil vapours and odours
  • Activated carbon attracts oil vapours and odours through the absorption process
  • Grade: 0.01 micron
  • Residual oil content: 0.0003 mg/m³ @ 20ºC
  • Max. working temperature: 60ºC
  • Pressure drop: Dry - 0.08 bar, Wet - 0.12 bar
