SOPHOS has announced the latest version of its Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X.
The new offering provides complete protection against all known threats on the Apple Macintosh operating system and includes support for the new Intel Duo processor powered iMac G5 and MacBook Pro products.
The Mac OS X platform has recently come under attack from virus writers.
Experts at SophosLabs, Sophos's global network of virus, spyware and spam analysis centres, discovered and issued protection against the first real virus for the Apple Mac OS X platform two weeks ago.
A web poll of more than 600 computer users conducted by Sophos in the wake of the discovery of the first Mac OS X worm, has revealed that 79% believe Apple Macintoshes will be targeted more in the future.
With the latest release of Sophos Anti-virus for Mac OS X, companies will now be able to use the same version of Sophos Anti-Virus, irrespective of the type of Macs deployed.
Available in English, Japanese, French, German and Spanish language versions, Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 4.7, allows users to perform on-demand scanning of files and folders, while its on-access scanner intercepts file accesses and scans all types of malware - providing a multi-layered defence against threats.
Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X enables automatic updates for all desktops, whether they are located within the office or on the road.
In addition, third-party developers producing anti-virus or security products for Mac OS X are able to integrate Sophos virus scanning technology into their products in the same way that OEMs and system integrators have done on Windows and Unix platforms.
Sophos advises all computer users, whether running PCs or Macs, to practise safe computing and keep their anti-virus software updated.
