Sony Australia ’s sale of high definition (HD) broadcast equipment to Global Television, in a deal that will see the two companies bring the future of mainstream HD viewing to Australia.
The portability and flexibility of the Sony equipment allows Global Television to deliver the exquisite picture quality and sound benefits of high definition recording to Australian viewers.
Global Television has already used the equipment to record and broadcast local and international high profile events including the AFI awards and V8 supercar event in Bahrain and recently recorded the Kylie Minogue Showgirl Homecoming concert in Melbourne.
The Kylie concert, which will be shown on ABC on the 5th March 2007, has been recorded in 1080 25p format for high definition broadcast in Australia and Europe and post-produced into DVD.
Global Television recorded Kylie’s show at the Rod Laver Arena using 11 Sony HDC1500 cameras loaded onto hot head and steadicam systems. Primary and back-up recordings were captured using 14 HD tape machines, with 60- track audio and the show was cut using MVS8000A production switcher from Sony.
Global Television purchased 14 Sony HD studio cameras including portable, super slow-mo and studio kits and two MVS8000As as part of the deal with Sony. The new HD equipment is essential for Global Television’s move to high definition broadcast.
The HD equipment builds upon its 63-strong range of Sony standard definition cameras and has been used in the upgrade of its broadcast vans into high definition mobile units.
The Global Television’s HD mobile units were used for the outdoor broadcast of Kylie’s concert. The equipment can also be packaged into portable fly-away kits for easy use in fast response and overseas jobs such as the recent V8 spercars event in Bahrain.
According to Global Television, it is no surprise that there is a paradigm shift taking place within the broadcast industry with the move to high definition technology.
The Sony product offering was clearly going to provide Global Television the facilities and easy upgrade path to reliably record and broadcast in HD from any location, enabling service of any high definition client requirements.
Sony Australia understands that today’s broadcast industry demands light, portable and reliable equipment that can be used and networked in any location as necessary.
Sony worked closely with Global Television to train staff and ensure the solution clearly met its present and future needs.
Sony offers customers an extensive range of professional quality broadcast solutions including cameras, video servers, switchers and routers and monitors.
