Solidtec helps Essa Australia streamline technical documentation process with SolidWorks 3DVIA

Supplier News

Solidtec Solutions- SolidWorks 3D CAD helped a WA-based design and manufacturing company streamline their technical documentation process with the implementation of SolidWorks 3DVIA Composer software.

3DVIA Composer is an advanced technical documentation software package within the SolidWorks/Dassault Systemes CAD design software product line.

Essa Australia Limited is an ASX listed company that specialises in the design and manufacture of sampling and sample preparation equipment for mineral exploration and mining companies in Australia and around the world.

Essa’s design experience has expanded to automation and robotics where they are a preferred supplier to many mining companies and commercial laboratories around the world.

Solidtec Solutions, a value added reseller of SolidWorks 3D CAD software products in Australia and New Zealand supplied Essa with the 3DVIA Composer technical documentation software. Since the implementation, Essa has seen a drastic reduction in both the cost and time consumed to produce their technical documentation.

According to Xavier Sequeira, Essa’s Engineering Manager, they had relied on a time consuming process of creating multiple views of their equipment using SolidWorks and photo editing programs, and then pasting the pictures into word documents to create their manuals. With the implementation of 3DVIA, the company has been able to save countless hours by importing assemblies directly from SolidWorks and creating the views instantly.

Sequeira adds that 3DVIA can produce better quality images and illustrations without the need to disrupt production. Additionally, its editing capabilities have cut down the time it takes to produce good quality manuals. Overall, the technical documentation software has helped Essa achieve a 25% cost reduction in creating their manuals.

One of the most important features of 3DVIA in relation to Essa’s operations is the ability to manipulate SolidWorks parts and assemblies outside of SolidWorks without requiring an engineering resource.

Essa’s previous manuals contained photos of machines in various stages of assembly as well as screen shots of equipment for hard-to-capture shots. Solidtec has helped Essa simplify and streamline their technical documentation process with 3DVIA.

When asked why Essa chose Solidtec Solutions as their software provider, Essa’s IT Manager, Mark Waclawik said that it was important for them to have local support to resolve issues quickly rather than wait for a response from interstate, which could take hours or even days. Solidtec was able to meet their local support needs with training to match.
