Australian designer wins international design competition using SolidWorks 3D CAD

Supplier News

Australian SolidWorks 3D CAD user, and designer at Filski Industrial Design, Flip Tejszerski, has recently been named as winner of the Local Motors Engineering Competition.

Filski Industrial Design is supported locally in Australia by Solidtec Solutions , specialists in technical support and training for SolidWorks 3D CAD users.

“Filski is a deserving winner and an example of Australian design innovation” says Solidtec Chief Executive, Scott Frayne.

Local Motors is a next generation American car company focused on changing the way cars are designed, manufactured and sold. The Local Motors Engineering Competition is the latest in an ongoing series of monthly car design competitions, aimed at selecting projects for a limited series production.

A core part of Locals Motors’ strategy is to create an ‘open source design community’ to ensure the best possible designs are incorporated into their vehicles. DS SolidWorks Corporation decided to sponsor the engineering contest as an incentive to the Local Motors community to collaborate and create breakthrough designs, and to help draw SolidWorks users into the contest.

Tejszerski came up with a design which satisfied the functional requirements of a roof mounted lighting configuration and also doubled as an air intake for cabin cooling. Drawing inspiration from Paris-Dakar vehicles, Pikes Peak racers, Subaru Rally Team and even the Maclaren F1 the streamlined aerodynamic nature of the design made it stand out .

A two time winner and SolidWorks user, Tejszerski describes himself as a SolidWorks enthusiast who is passionate about design and specifically concept generation, for example, sketching, 3D modelling and rendering, and animation.

“It is satisfying to start building a 3D model on a blank screen, whilst referencing back to a sketch, seeing your design come to life in a virtually real form,” says Tejszerski.

“SolidWorks enables me to design in a way which ignites further creativity and innovation. SolidWorks is capable of presenting the design in the best possible light with its high-end rendering quality so to win a license of SolidWorks Premium 3D CAD is fantastic,” he concludes.
