WITH the increasing heat loss of components in electronic plug-in units, particularly in the area of AdvancedTCA and with server applications, air cooling is reaching its limits. This is due to the large air flow rates required to dissipate the thermal power loss, which limits the capacity to around 8 to 10 kW per cabinet. Above this level it is no longer possible to apply air cooling.
For higher cooling performances Schroff now offers a new cooling concept as an optimally balanced complete cabinet solution: the Varistar cabinet platform with integrated air/water heat exchanger LHX 20, available from Soanar . With this air/water heat exchanger up to 20 kW heat loss can be dissipated per cabinet.
The heat exchanger has a closed air circuit (air output 1000 to 3000 m3/h) and operates at environmental temperatures of between 5-40 ºC and a humidity of between 5-70 %. Installed in the side of the cabinet, the heat exchanger guarantees the cooling of all installed components throughout the entire assembly height via separated elements. To avoid condensed water inside the cabinet, an integrated droplet eliminator has been provided.
The water supply and power are fed in from the base. Cabinet monitoring and system control are achieved through various interfaces (AdvancedTCA Shelf Management, RS 232, RJ 45 and RS 485) which also provide outputs for alarms and other warning signals
Easy maintenance of the air/water heat exchanger and exchange of six fans is possible and guarantees uninterrupted operation of systems and server.
