While mechanically cooled buildings are able to measure the benefits of Skycool ’s roof coatings, non-air conditioned shopping complexes, warehouses and factories may also have the need for keeping their environment comfortable and cool. One example is the Direct Factory Outlet centre in Moorabbin, Victoria.
The newly constructed areas of the building featured air conditioning while the original 13,000 square metres shopping area experienced problems with overheating in the hotter months with the majority of the heat coming through the roof.
The Queensland University of Technology was invited to model the effect of SkyCool’s roof coatings on the older Direct Factory Outlet building. The model showed the effect of SkyCool’s roof coatings on the air temperature immediately below the uninsulated roof.
SkyCool’s roof coatings have the ability to reduce the sub-roof temperature from 65°C to about 25°C. The shopping area of the building would experience a temperature reduction from the mid to high thirties to the mid twenties.
