Silanna Semiconductor has been awarded the Accreditation of Trust by the Defense MicroElectronics Activity (DMEA), a unit of the Pentagon’s Office of the Director of Defense Research and Engineering (ODDR&E).
The scope of the accreditation includes category 1A Foundry Services, Design Services and Post-Processing Services.
Silanna is the first company outside of the United States to achieve this accreditation, which is also recognition of their strong design and production capabilities as well as systems for rigorously protecting client data.
Silanna, a semiconductor company manufactures integrated circuits using advanced Silicon-on-Sapphire (SoS) processes, supplying their ICs to the global space, defence and consumer markets.
The accreditation applies to Silanna’s 0.25µm and 0.5µm SoS semiconductor foundry processes, its design services and its backend processing services.
According to Silanna’s VP of Business Development, Andrew Greatbatch, the Accreditation of Trust is recognition of Silanna Semiconductor as a provider of crucial components and technology for the Department of Defense.
It is also an acknowledgement of the procedures, systems and commitment that Silanna has in place to ensure customer data security.
To receive the Accreditation of Trust a facility must meet specific criteria for security procedures, storage locations, computer systems and personnel clearances among many other factors to ensure that defence information is handled, stored and manufactured in a secure fashion.
The DMEA is the accrediting authority and conducts audits of facilities that are a part of the Trusted Foundry program.
In addition, the Defence Security Authority (DSA), a unit of the Australian Department of Defence has accredited Silanna’s facility at ‘Secret’ level.
DSA and DMEA worked closely with Silanna to ensure that secure systems and processes were implemented to a rigorously high standard.
The SoS process employed by Silanna Semiconductors offers higher performance and integration in a technology platform that features the scalability and flexibility of conventional CMOS.
The sapphire substrate used by Silanna offers a high degree of electrical isolation, which enables digital logic as well as analogue and RF circuits to be integrated with high-Q passives on a single die.
Silanna offers semiconductor manufacturing services to customers wishing to take advantage of the benefits of SoS for their Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) designs.
