Siemens Ltd is setting new standards for integrated industrial automation systems with the first installation of new SIMATIC S7-1200 controllers in Australia by Versacold Logistics, which combine a wide variety of functions from counting and measuring, speed, position and duty cycle control to simple process control functionality.
"The S7-1200 was selected due to its price-performance ratio, integrated Ethernet port and compact and expandable design,” Mr Paul Ellis, Electrical Team Manager at Versacold Logistics said.
Siemens Executive Manager Marketing, Ashish Bhat said SIMATIC S7-1200 controllers have been designed with maximum flexibility to fit individual machine requirements.
“With such a flexible, modular design the SIMATIC S7-1200 enables a completely customised controller system that has maximum scalability and adaptability for potential future expansion,” he said.
SIMATIC S7-1200 controllers feature an integrated PROFINET interface, powerful integrated technology functions and a highly scalable and flexible design, which enables simple and efficient communication for automation requirements across a wide range of applications.
“The integrated PROFINET interface is used for programming, as well as for HMI and PLC-to-PLC communication. Additionally, it supports communication with third-party devices using open Ethernet protocols,” says Bhat.
Whether modular, PC-based or embedded controllers, Siemens Ltd SIMATIC controller range is characterised by high reliability and integrated functionalities including safety, motion control and Ethernet-based IT services.
The controller has the built in capability to share a core intelligence with over 100,000 mutually compatible automation products. Siemens Ltd call this level of open flexibility and interoperability Totally Integrated Automation (TIA). When synchronised with customer requirements, TIA optimises factory, machine and process operations, allowing increased efficiency and competitive advantage.
