The product portfolio of Scalance X Industrial Ethernet Switches consisting of Scalance X005 Entry Level, Scalance X-100 unmanaged, Scalance X-200 managed and Scalance X-400 modular, has been supplemented by the compact Scalance X-300 managed plus product line.

This spectrum of compact Scalance X-300 products comprises three product variants:

  • Scalance X310
  • Scalance X308-2
  • Scalance X308-2LD

The Scalance X-300 managed plus product line combines the firmware functionality of Scalance X-400 products (without routing functions on layer 3) with the compact design of Scalance X-200 products.

The attribute "managed plus" means enhanced management functions in comparison to Scalance X-200, plus enhanced firmware functionality.

Scalance X-300 are 10-port switches with different configurations (twisted pair und fiber optic ports). 3 Ports are implemented in Gigabit Ethernet technology.

The Scalance X-300 switches are used for the design of high-performance Gigabit Ethernet rings (twisted pair and fiber optic). Ring coupling via Gigabit Ethernet or the connection of Gigabit Ethernet terminal devices is also possible.

Alternatively, Scalance X-300 can be used to design Fast Ethernet rings, or to integrate the switches in existing Fast Ethernet rings.


The Scalance X300 managed switches are available in 3 versions with different combination of electrical and/or electrical ports:

  • Scalance X310: 7 x RJ45 10/100 Mbit/s ports and 3 x RJ45 10/100/1000
  • Scalance X308-2: 7 x RJ45 10/100 Mbit/s ports 1 x RJ45 10/100/1000 and 2 x 10/100/1000 glass fibre SC ports
  • Scalance X308-2LD: 7 x RJ45 10/100 Mbit/s ports 1 x RJ45 10/100/1000 and 2 x 10/100/1000 glass fibre SC ports

Use in redundant ring topologies:

The Scalance X-300 switches are an ideal solution for setting up electrical, optical or hybrid ring topologies both for Gigabit and Fast Etherenet where a high level of network availability is required. Redundancy switching time is less than 300 msec.

The integral standby function permits redundant coupling of network segments, e.g. redundant coupling of two rings. Scalance X-300 also permits a connection of Gigabit rings via Gigabit lines.

Unique strain relief concept:

The Scalance X-300 series have new strain relief sleeves on electrical ports which when used with Profinet compliant Industrial Ethernet connectors eg. Fast Connect RJ45 Plug 180, provides improved tensile and bending force resistance (from the connected data cables) in comparison with standard RJ45 connectors.

Network management and diagnostics:

Scalance X-300 switches enable continual monitoring of network components by means of a signalling contact, web browser, Profinet diagnostics or SNMP network management. With such mechanisms, problems can be quickly identified and corrected by both the network administrator and the programmable controller.

Office based features:

Scalance X-300 also permits the design of so-called virtual networks (VLAN). In this way several "logical" Industrial Ethernet networks can be formed on a single physically available network (separation of load and address area, access protection and prioritisation between groups of subscribers).

Support of the standardised redundancy procedures Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) enables redundant connection to higher level enterprise networks.

Multicast data streams as can occur with speech or video applications, can be identified by the switch and the load in the overall network limited by filtering (IGMP snooping, IGMP Querier). The network load with respect to multicast and broadcast can be limited specifically for each port.

Totally integrated automation:

Scalance X-300 can easily be integrated in the configuration and system diagnostics of STEP7 as PROFINET-IO device. The integrated configuration and diagnostics in SIMATIC STEP7 brings significant advantages with engineering, commissioning and operation of a plant.

Service with minimised downtimes:

With Scalance X300, the configuration data can be automatically saved on an optional memory card (C-PLUG). In the event of a device failure, the C-PLUG only needs to be plugged into the replacement device and the X300 has the same configuration as the device that was removed.
